They also add in a whole bunch of other little plot things that don't really add to the overall theme (which they were doing a GREAT JOB OF BEFORE THE CLIMAX) but just sort of keeps the audience's minds occupied.Īnd at the end of the movie, when all is defeated and of course the characters rise to ultimate happiness and satisfaction, they continue this superhero-y thing. They totally take on this superhero-esque mantra and just coast on that for the rest of the movie.
With that said, the whole thing went completely downhill fast.

The funniest part of the movie was, by FAR, the robot! I mean, of course it's the robot-the quirky, less realistic, supporting character is always the audience favorite (Save movies like 'Dumb and Dumber', 'Zoolander', 'What About Bob', 'Zoolander', 'Anchorman'-in which case the "clown and straight man" demographic is chucked out the window and stampeded in a wake of chaos). I find that odd and slightly offensive, like they want the audience to be one hundred percent sure that she is in fact Latina and that they did in fact make the movie racially diverse "enough".Īnd don't even get me started on the rebellious gum-snapping girl with the colored hair and sarcastic personality (It's an archetype!!!!!), or the stoner-esque, skater-dude white guy (Seriously, that's like one of the most cliched archetypes ever) who then not-so-seamlessly turns into some sort of superhero-loving dork mid-movie (though in all fairness, he will probably always love the "science" of fire-breathing monsters). The bubbly Latina girl could pronounce every word in a "normal" American accent except for the main character's name, Hiro. I enjoyed that they really mixed it up, race-wise-however, I felt they tried a bit TOO hard-literally, every single one of the main character's friends was a different race (and extremely specific archetype). Cute, fun, but the science was SO INACCURATE it was laughable.no surprise there, of course, it being a movie geared toward younger audiences and all. The beginning was pretty great, all-in-all.
